RAKU DONUT TWIN 2

2025
This donut emerges from the same thrown form as its twin, yet the unpredictability of Raku firing shapes its unique identity. Rapid heating, removal from the kiln, and immersion in combustible materials create crackled, iridescent surfaces that cannot be replicated. The chosen glaze blooms into an uneven, moss-like texture, evoking lichen on stone or plants reclaiming space over time. Deep and muted greens shift across the form, punctuated by metallic highlights and black smoke lines tracing fine cracks. Each mark tells the story of the firing: where heat lingered, where smoke penetrated, and where the glaze flowed differently. Though its shape is controlled, the surface reflects surrender to elemental forces. This donut embodies the tension between intention and chance — a quiet, circular meditation on transformation, imperfection, and organic beauty, a singular artifact discovered rather than made.
