Stoneware, glaze

H 6.5 inches W 4 inches D 4 inches

A depiction of transformation and the unpredictable beauty of fire, this vase was thrown in stoneware and fired as Raku. It is removed from the kiln red hot, then it is placed in combustible materials such as newspaper. The result is a surface of iridescent textures where metallic sheens, deep blacks, and subtle smoke lines trace the history of heat and combustion. Each mark is unique, reflecting the dialogue between control and chance, structure and spontaneity. The glaze blooms and cracks unevenly, evoking natural erosion, creating a living, organic surface. While the form is deliberate, the finish is a collaboration with elemental forces, capturing the moment of transformation. This vase is purely decorative, a sculptural object that embodies impermanence, organic beauty, and the poetry of fire. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, a tangible record of unpredictability and artistry.
