FLOOR LAMP

Maple wood, stoneware, underglaze, gold leaf

2018

Esbelta,  meaning svelte in Spanish, is a slender and sleek floor lamp. Its thin  and tall profile command the room no matter where it is positioned,  attracting the eye with its combination of earthy materials (wood and  ceramic) and bright electric blue color.

The lamp  was inspired by the stacking of elements with precise proportions and  geometric shapes. The proportions are a play of threes, the total height  of the floor lamp is divided in three, of those, two thirds are  subdivided in three and so on. Various revolved profiles are integrated  seamlessly on top of each other, a combination of ellipses and cones  intercalating a piece of wood and a piece of ceramic.

Materiality  and finishes are extremely important. The maple wood was sanded and  finished with linseed oil which enriched its natural color. The  ceramics’ surface, in the other hand, was left slightly on the rougher  side showing its handmade aspect and then finished with a velvet  electric blue underglaze; a neutral color that pops creating interest.  In the future, the accent color of the ceramic could be customized for  every client. The interior of the lampshade was gilded to introduce a  level of luxe and to better reflect the light in the space.
